Board of Education Meeting

April 15, 2008

 

The regular meeting of the Shelby Board of Education was held on Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at 7:00 p.m. in the Shelby Public School.  Notice of meeting was posted at (1) Shelby Public School, (2) Pinnacle Bank, and (3) Shelby Food Mart on or before April 9, 2008.

 

Meeting called to order by Jeff Scow at 7:00 p.m.

Installation of Board Member Mike Boss.

 

At the beginning of this meeting Jeff Scow announced and informed the public that a current copy of the Open Meeting Act is posted on the Southwest wall of the meeting room.

Administrative Reports

 

Mr.Scow presented the board members report. He reported on the special meeting discussing the library and teacher negotiations have started.

 

Mr. Chadek presented the athletic director /activities director report. He reported summer projects will be refinishing gym floors and working on the outside sound system; revising Shelby Huskies athletic code of conduct and cheerleaders handbook; District Music is April 18 & 19; Spring Concert is April 21; All School Play is April 24 & 25 and Athletic Banquet is April 29.

Mr. Curry presented the secondary principal report.  He reported Prom was successful; academic awards night went well; class scheduling for next year has begun; 7th grade academics have improved and cell phone policy needs to be looked at before next year.

 

Mr. Stick presented the Superintendents Report. He reported on LB 988 state aid re-certification; National teacher day/staff appreciation breakfast will be May 6 at 7:30 and portable building costs.

 

Motion by Jeff Kuhnel, second by Roy Houdersheldt to approve the second reading of proposed Board Policy 300.26 – the Shelby Public School Title 1 Parent Involvement Policy.

Motion by Jeff Kuhnel, second by Jason Ingalls to accept the resignation of Janelle Sander from her position as K-12 Media Specialist.

Motion Passed: 6/0/0

 

Motion by Jason Ingalls, second by Jeff Kuhnel to accept the resignation of Theresa Reese from her position as cook.

Motion Passed: 6/0/0

 

Motion by Mike Boss, second by Roy Houdersheldt to approve the superintendent’s recommendation to offer contracts to staff members as presented.

Motion Passed: 6/0/0

 

Motion by Jason Ingalls, second by Jacob Nekl to approve the proposed 2008-2009 school calendar as presented.

Motion Passed: 6/0/0

 

Motion by Roy Houdersheldt, second by Jacob Nekl to name Jeff Kuhnel and Mike Boss as Board Representatives to the library committee and to give them authority to make decisions within the committee that will have an effect on the board.

Motion by Jeff Kuhnel, second by Roy Houdersheldt to approve the Board Resolution concerning Section 403(b) Arrangement as presented.

Motion Passed: 5/0/1

 

Motion by Mike Boss by Jason Ingalls to enter executive session at 8:15 p.m.

Session to discuss were personnel issues.

Motion by Jeff Kuhnel, second by Mike Boss to leave executive session at 9:25 and re-enter the regular meeting.

Motion by Roy Houdersheldt, second by Jacob Nekl to approve the recommendation of the superintendent to create new elementary teaching positions to eliminate overcrowding for the 2008-2009 school year.
