Board of Education Meeting

February 12, 2008

 

The regular meeting of the Shelby Board of Education was held on Tuesday, February 12, 2008, at 4:00 p.m. in the Shelby Public School.  Notice of meeting was posted at (1) Shelby Public School, (2) Pinnacle Bank, and (3) Shelby Food Mart on or before February 6, 2008.

 

Meeting called to order by Jeff Scow at 4:00 p.m.

Roll Call:

Members Present: Jeff Scow, Jeff Kuhnel, Jacob Nekl, Roy Houdersheldt, Doug Moon              

Motion by Jeff Kuhnel, second by Doug Moon to excuse Jason Ingalls.

Administrators Present:  Larry Stick, William Curry

Treasurer Present: Ada Noyd

Visitors Present:  Mary Gillespie, Donna Krumbach

                                               

At the beginning of this meeting Jeff Scow announced and informed the public that a current copy of the Open Meeting Act is posted on the Southwest wall of the meeting room.

 

Motion by Doug Moon, second by Roy Houdersheldt to approve the agenda.

Motion by Jeff Kuhnel, second by Jacob Nekl to approve the treasurer’s report.

Administrative Reports

 

Mr. Curry presented the athletic director /activities director report. He reported on the academic all-state nominations and the Lincoln Journal Star academic all-star nominations.

 

Mr. Curry presented the secondary principal report.  He reported on National Honor

Society induction; 3rd quarter update; high school dance and the speech contest in Schuyler.

Mr. Stick presented the Superintendents Report. He reported on State Aide certification, NCSA/NASB labor relation’s conference and the NRSA conference will be March 12, 2008.

 

Motion by Roy Houdersheldt, second by Jeff Kuhnel to accept the resignation of Doug Moon from his position as Interim Board Member for the Shelby Public School effective as of

March 1, 2008.

Motion by Doug Moon, second by Jacob Nekl  to approve the superintendent’s recommendation to split the third grade class for the remainder of the year and hire a temporary teacher for the class if the enrollment increases.

Motion Passed: 5/0/0

 

Motion by Roy Houdersheldt, second by Jeff Kuhnel to approve the superintendent’s

recommendation  to name Elaine Westring to the position of Special Education paraprofessional.

Motion Passed: 5/0/0

 

Jason Ingalls entered the meeting at 4:43.

 

Motion by Jacob Nekl, second by Roy Houdersheldt to approve the recommendation of the superintendent to offer a contract to William Curry for the position of secondary principal for the 2008-2009 school year.

Motion Passed: 6/0/0

 

Motion by Jeff Kuhnel, second by Doug Moon to approve the recognition of the Shelby Education Association as the exclusive bargaining agent for the teachers employed by the Shelby Public School.

Motion Passed: 6/0/0

 

The discussion items were setting up a board work session for goal setting and school calendar for 2008-2009 & 2009-2010.

 

Motion by Jacob Nekl, second by Doug Moon to enter executive session at 5:00 p.m.

Session to discuss were board issues.

Motion Passed: 6/0/0

 

Motion by Jeff Kuhnel, second by Jacob Nekl to leave executive session at 5:35 and re-enter the regular meeting.
