Board of Education Meeting

November 7, 2007

 

The regular meeting of the Shelby Board of Education was held on Wednesday, November 7, 2007, at 7:00 p.m. in the Shelby Public School.  Notice of meeting was posted at (1) Shelby Public School, (2) Pinnacle Bank, and (3) Shelby Food Mart on or before November 8, 2007.

 

Meeting called to order by Jeff Scow at 7:00 p.m.

Members Present: Jeff Scow, Jeff Kuhnel, Jacob Nekl,

     Roy Houdersheldt, Jason Ingalls, Doug Moon

Administrators Present:  Larry Stick, William Curry

Visitors Present:  Jack Pekny, Lynn Ruth, Briahna Kolb, Ellen Glock,

                            Darla Winslow

                                               

At the beginning of this meeting Jeff Scow announced and informed the public that a current copy of the Open Meeting Act is posted on the Southwest wall of the meeting room.

 

Motion by Doug Moon, second by Jeff Kuhnel to approve the agenda.

Motion by Jason Ingalls, second by Roy Houderseldt to approve the minutes.

Motion by Jeff Kuhnel, second by Jason Ingalls to approve the claims.

Motion by Doug Moon, second by Jacob Nekl to approve the treasurer’s report.

Motion Passed: 6/0/0

 

           

Administrative Reports

 

Mr. Chadek presented the athletic director/activities director report. He reported that there are 18 girls and 25 boys are out for basketball.

 

Mr. Curry presented the secondary principal report.  He reported on the professional growth conferences that he attended and math portfolio.

 

Mr. Stick presented the Superintendents Report. He reported on parent teacher conferences and Nebraska school bus soy bio diesel reimbursement program.

 

 

Motion by Roy Houdersheldt, second by Doug Moon to approve the 2006-2007 school audit as presented by Pekny, Marohn & Associates.

Motion Passed: 6/0/0

 

Darla Winslow, Director of the Polk County Health Department, gave a presentation.

 

Lynn Ruth gave a presentation on the math assessment portfolio.

 

Motion by Roy Houdersheldt, second by Jacob Nekl to approve the superintendent’s recommendation to increase the substitute pay.

Motion by Jason Ingalls, second by Jacob Nekl to approve the superintendent’s recommendation to accept the verbal resignation of Margie Morrison from her cook’s position for Shelby Public School.

Motion Passed: 6/0/0

 

Motion by Jason Ingalls, second Doug Moon to approve the superintendent’s recommendation to hire Theresa Reese as a cook/baker for Shelby Public School.

Motion Passed: 6/0/0

 

The discussion items were School Board Goals; Board Policy 300.27 – Code of Conduct and Discipline for All Students; Safety and security plan inspection and Nebraska School bus proposal.

 

 

Motion by Jacob Nekl, second by Doug Moon to enter executive session at 8:39 p.m.

Session to discuss were personnel issues.

Motion by Jeff Kuhnel, second by Jacob Nekl to leave executive session at 9:02 p.m. and re-enter the regular meeting.
