SHELBY PUBLIC SCHOOL STUDENT HANDBOOK The
Shelby Public Schools have been established by this community for the purpose of developing efficient and
responsible citizens for democratic living. To accomplish this purpose, the schools seek to provide
those educational experiences which will assist each pupil to discover individual needs, interests and
abilities, and to foster development to the greatest individual potential. To achieve this implies
that the student will acquire knowledge to develop skills, attitudes, interests, appreciations and
insights which will enable him or her to live effectively in a democracy and to make a maximum
contribution to the improvement of society. Every
child has a right to an appropriate education. The school
must provide a well-planned, systematic pattern of educational experiences which will provide for full
development of each student's abilities and meet educational needs while encouraging and allowing
exploration of educational interests. It
is vital for the school, community, and parents to work effectively together to ensure commitment of the
resources, time, and effort necessary for complete educational development. The
Shelby Public School believes in the concept of the democratic way of life.
Students will be presented learning opportunities which will develop an awareness and appreciation
of their rights and responsibilities. Attention
to the individual is emphasized throughout the school system by providing a friendly and purposeful
atmosphere to encourage each youngster to want to learn and to attain his or her best level of
achievement. Traditionally,
the Shelby Public School seeks to promote the best possible physical, emotional, and social development
of boys and girls. Constant strides are being made to
improve the educational services, instructional materials, and physical facilities leading to the
improvement of the quality of learning. Education
of young people cannot effectively be accomplished by school personnel working alone.
The teachers, parents, students, and community need to show a respect toward one another and work
together as a group to ensure a sound school system at Shelby, Nebraska. The
student handbooks are annually approved by the Shelby Board of Education. After approval it becomes an extension of the Official School Board Policies. |
