Students who attend SPS their entire Junior & Senior year are eligible for the honor of valedictorian & salutatorian.  Semester grades, by numerical percenatage, of each student  for all solid subjects shall be averaged (to the thousandths place) to determine class rank.  In case of a tie, the honor will be shared. 

ALL SECONDARY STUDENTS who keep an average of 90% or better in all solid classes with a 94% average in all classes will earn the honor of being on the ROLL OF EXCELLENCE.  Students with an 83% in all solid classes with an 86% or better will earn the honor of being on the HONOR ROLL.

Shelby Public School offers juniors and seniors the opportunity to be a part of the National Honor Society.  Criteria for membership is outlined in board policy 300.??

SPS offers a fun program for students who qualify as a high ability learners.  To find out if you qualify, refer to Board Policy 600.26.  Or… you can ask our guidance counselor for more details!

A numerical grade is assigned for all solid courses.  A letter grade is assigned for non-solid courses.  

98-100	A

91-93	B+
88-90	B
86-87	B-
83-85 	C+
80-82	C
78-79	C-
75-77	D+

70-71	D-
0 – 69	F
Flowchart: Alternate Process: Weekly Eligibility: 

After the third week of each semester, all secondary students will undergo an “eligibility” check each Monday.

One “F” = pass privileges denied for seven days ( Tues. – Mon.).

Two or more “F’s” = Ineligible to participate in all school related activities for seven days (Tuesday – Monday).  The activity sponsor will determine if an ineligible student is allowed to attend practices, use practice time to study, or study at home.

A letter will be mailed home indicating the class and current grade.

If you are failing or even close to failing, weekly progress reports will be mailed home for all “D’s” & “F’s”.

SEE YOUR TEACHER if this applies to you.  They will help you with good advice to improve your situation.

If you failed a class, and want to make it up by taking summer school, see the guidance counselor for more details.  
Flowchart: Alternate Process: Adding or Dropping a Class:

Students who wish to drop or add a class must do so by the second week of the current semester.  Requests can be made with the guidance counselor (there is a form to fill out).  The secondary principal will make the final decision for a request to be granted or denied.

Students under the age of 16 must get parental permission before withdrawing from school.  ALL students who want to withdraw must visit with the guidance counselor first.
